These Wooden Ghungroos are constructed of many small nuts tied together and used as a musical anklet by traditional Indian dancers. In some cases you will find small bells. The sounds produced depend on the size of the elements tied to the Ghungroo and of course whether they are wooden or metal objects. They serve to accentuate to movement and rhythm of the music within the dance. Sometimes drummers will wear them to accentuate the beat with their feet as they drum with their hands.
We also have hand Ghungroos available that can be tied to wrist and used in the same way.
Their sound is extremely unique and surprisingly loud for such a small instrument. You must give it a try!
