A Rain Stick is a ceremonial instrument originating in the Andes, consisting of a hollow branch sealed at both ends and containing small hard objects such as seeds or pebbles. It has small pins or thorns arranged helically on its inside surface. When the stick is upended, the pebbles fall to the other end of the tube, making a sound reminiscent of rain falling.
