A Rain Stick is a ceremonial instrument originating in the Andes, consisting of a hollow branch sealed at both ends and containing small hard objects such as seeds or pebbles. It has small pins or thorns arranged helically on its inside surface. When the stick is upended, the pebbles fall to the other end of the tube, making a sound reminiscent of rain falling.
This Rain Stick has Indigenous-styled painting around the middle. In regards to the paintings, the small rain sticks have decorative dot patterns and the large illustrate either a pattern or a Turtle. Constructed from plantation Mahogany with woven capped ends.
